Rally Software Integrates Reporting Capabilities from 6th Sense Analytics Acquisition into its Agile ALM Solution

First integration following acquisition continues the expansion of reporting options for easier ways to view progress and quality across the Agile development lifecycle

BOULDER, Colo., June 10, 2009 - Rally Software Development Corp.®, the Agile application lifecycle management (ALM) leader, today announced new reporting capabilities for its award-winning Agile ALM solution. This is the first product integration from the company's acquisition of 6th Sense Analytics, an on-demand and automated metrics collection and analysis company, announced in January 2009. The new reporting features, including a single-source reports tab, give development teams and executives greater visibility into the overall status and quality of their Agile projects.

"Our roadmap for product and portfolio management this year is really exciting," said Zach Nies, Rally's VP of Products. "Now, in just our second product release of the year, we've taken the first major step in integrating the rich reporting capabilities from 6th Sense into our Agile ALM platform with easier ways to communicate progress, performance and quality both inside and outside of the development team."

New and enhanced reports and mashups available through Rally's new reports tab include:

  • New iteration and release burnup charts - Project managers and team leaders can view work delivered so far in the iteration or release to proactively anticipate whether commitments will be met.
  • New release defect trend report - Testers and quality assurance (QA) managers can chart cumulative defects opened versus closed to assess net change in quality over a release.
  • New customizable program chart mashup - Program managers and executives can quickly get a high-level status of their programs by charting progress with bar and line displays, story and task units, colors, ideal lines, trend lines and any combination of schedule states.
  • New iteration dashboard mashup - Project managers and team leaders can quickly track the progress of each iteration, including project health, the status of test cases and defects, and iteration completion.
  • Enhanced release dashboard mashup - In addition to quickly tracking the progress of each release, project managers and team leaders can now view all status charts and the release burndown chart for both parent and child projects.

In addition, all reports in the Reports Tab may now be saved and easily shared with stakeholders outside of development using a variety of methods, including PDF format with annotations to add explanations and commentary, JPEG and PNG formats to easily insert charts into wikis or presentations, and printable format with annotations and customizable titles.

"Being able to easily communicate our progress beyond our development team is a huge benefit for us," said Brian Lomeli, Sr. Program Manager of Service Automation Product Line at BMC Software. "Rally's new reports tab enables us to quickly pull information and generate reports so we can keep our executive team informed about the status and quality of our Agile projects."

Additional enhancements to Rally's award-winning Agile lifecycle applications were some of the highest voted features from its online user community, including:

  • Automatically convert a defect to a user story - Product owners can easily convert a defect into a user story, so that it can be prioritized on the backlog.
  • Simplified tab names - The names of tabs have changed to make navigation simpler and more intuitive.
  • Backlog Page beta program - Rally is conducting an open beta program of changes to the Backlog Page. Users can toggle back and forth between the original and beta Backlog Pages and provide feedback in Rally's user community, Agile Commons.
