The Agile Planner

: zoom in :

In conjunction with the University of Calgary and a NSERC grant from Canada, Rally has developed the Agile Planner, an easy to use, client-based, open-source planning tool for Agile teams.

The Agile Planner is designed to simulate one of the most common Agile planning processes - sticky notes on a whiteboard - while making the capture and sharing of this plan information across teams much easier.

  • For distributed teams, the Agile Planner facilitates collaborative iteration and release planning sessions via Web meetings.
  • For individual roadmap planning, the Agile Planner allows a Product Manager to save their plans to a file as well as annotate and print multiple versions for further discussion and collaboration.
  • For Agile teams already working with Rally's Agile lifecycle management solutions, this product can "round trip" story cards from Rally to the Agile Planner's whiteboard and back using Rally's web services API.
  • For Agile teams jointly planning on-screen, various input features allow multiple users to work effectively at the same time.

The Agile Planner is based on the Eclipse Rich Client Platform and will be available as open-source under the Apache 2 license and hosted off of Rally's site for free.

Rally will release a version of Agile Planner this fall, and we are currently looking for contributors to further expand this product in the open source space. If you are interested in working on this project, please contact us.
