Rally Software Development Customers Drive Latest Release for Agile Practices
Less than 70 days after its Customer Summit with 40 customers, Rally announces defect customization, program management features and Eclipse plug-in
BOULDER, Colo., September 19, 2005 - Rally Software Development Corp., the leader in on-demand software lifecycle management solutions for scaling Agile software development practices, announced the first new features driven from a six-month roadmap created during Rally's second Customer Summit, held July 26, 2005. Rally Release 5.5 lets users easily create custom fields, views and advanced filters for defect management; view cross-project reports on feature completeness; and, manage team resources on larger programs. Rally Release 5.5 also includes a new Eclipse plug-in that allows customers to view and update tasks within the Eclipse IDE (Integrated Development Environment). The new release will be delivered in two phases, with new customization features available on Oct. 1, and program management enhancements released to customers on Nov. 19. The Eclipse plug-in is available today by contacting Rally.
New defect customization features include:
- Custom Fields - classify defect attributes using a wide variety of numeric, text and logical data types.
- Custom Views - helps create and define summary views and to display fields of interest.
- Advanced Filters - create Boolean filters on standard and custom fields to focus on issues important to project completion.
New program management features include:
- Cross-Project Reporting - define which projects roll-up into a Rally Program and provide visibility into status on all projects.
- Team Management - new resource reporting views for managing tasks and loading of team members across projects.
The new Eclipse plug-in allows developers to update Rally tasks within Eclipse, the open source IDE that increasingly is used to develop and debug software code. The plug-in makes it easier for developers to update tasks without leaving their IDE and provides team visibility into the overall status of projects.
"We have successfully delivered three releases using Rally and Agile development methods. The new defect customization capabilities make Rally a very unique solution for managing the entire software lifecycle," said Kirk Rothe, director, quality assurance, Webroot Software. "It helps us increase our agility while providing all the comforts of traditional software management tools."
Rally is helping change the way companies around the globe define, develop and deliver software. Rally's on-demand solutions for software lifecycle management support the mainstream adoption of Agile development practices, a fast-growing trend that helps software organizations respond faster to changing customer needs by building software incrementally using short, fully-tested iterations. A growing roster of small and large companies rely on Rally for the knowledge, coaching and on-demand tooling to successfully adopt and scale their Agile initiatives, regardless of team size, location or number of concurrent projects being developed.
"The second Rally customer summit was a great success, due in no small part to the incredible facilitation talent of our advisory board member Luke Hohmann, founder of Enthiosys," said Ryan Martens, Rally president and founder. "Luke's product planning and prioritization techniques helped us work with nearly 40 Rally clients in a dynamic and energized session to establish a product vision and release themes for our next six months. Rally Release 5.5 delivers on some of these high priority requests and lays important groundwork for some significant advancements coming in future releases."
