Independent Survey Signals the Continued Rise of Dedicated Agile Project Management Tools Over Traditional Tools

Rally Software ranked #1 preferred provider for Agile tools among large enterprises

BOULDER, Colo., Dec. 19, 2006 - An independent survey confirms that a new breed of tooling designed specifically to support Agile software development processes is being adopted more frequently than traditional application life cycle management tools. The survey, conducted by Trail Ridge Consulting, a leading provider of Agile business performance services, also named Rally the tool of choice for large enterprises adopting Agile methods.

The survey of 525 respondents indicates that over 60% of organizations using Agile software development practices selected a specialized Agile project management (APM) tool over manual processes and traditional tools. In addition, 25% of Agile organizations not currently using an APM tool are considering purchase. One of the primary conclusions of the survey is continued strong growth in the adoption of dedicated APM tools, especially among larger enterprises.

In the survey, Rally was named the number one preferred provider of APM tools for large enterprises. The leading reasons large organizations selected a specialized Agile project management tool were traceability and tracking of development processes and metrics Small organizations cited greater speed and efficiency in development processes.

"Rally's goal is to help development teams achieve Agile success by providing an incremental adoption strategy and a whole solution of knowledge, coaching and tooling," said Ryan Martens, Rally's founder and Chief Technology Officer. "We are honored that both small teams and large organizations turn to Rally to adopt Agile, from their first Agile pilot project to enterprise-wide deployment."

The recently announced results are part of an in-depth global survey administered by Trail Ridge Consulting to 525 respondents who have adopted Agile methods on some level in their organization. The goal of the survey, which was conducted independent of any tool vendor, was to determine the tools and processes companies use to support Agile software development.
