Rally Software Invited to Participate in Independent Research Report for Requirements Management
Rally's application lifecycle management solution receives top scores for collaboration and interfaces
BOULDER, Colo., June 5, 2008 - Rally Software Development Corp.®, the #1 partner for Agile success through its family of products, coaching and community support, today announced that it was among the select companies that Forrester Research invited to participate in its May 2008 report titled "The Forrester WaveTM: Requirements Management, Q2 2008." In this evaluation, Rally's Agile application lifecycle management solution received the top scores for collaboration and interfaces and the second-highest score for reporting.
"Rally designed the requirements management capabilities in Rally Enterprise, a software-as-a-service (SaaS) ALM solution, to suit teams using Agile processes. The product performs flawlessly in this regard..." wrote Forrester senior analyst Carey Schwaber and analyst Mary Gerush in the report. "Rally's solution is more appropriate for Agile teams or Agile shops than any other requirements management solution."
On a scale of 1 to 5 with 5 being the highest possible score, Rally received the top scores for collaboration (5.00) and interfaces (4.70), as well as the second-highest score for reporting (4.20). Rally also received high marks for scalability and administration (4.00), cost (4.00), solution architecture (3.70) and lifecycle integration (3.15).
"We are incredibly honored to be selected to participate in this report and to be in such great company with these other leading solution providers," said Ryan Martens, Rally's founder and CTO. "We're confident that our scores reflect the true needs of Agile teams for cross-team collaboration, flexible reporting, and an easy-to-use interface available both on and offline."
Traditional "waterfall" development methods often dictate a comprehensive understanding of all project requirements up-front. These detailed specifications are baselined and then "handed-off" to other roles in the organization for coding, integration and test. Many traditional requirements management tools were designed to support this role-based, document-driven development process.
In contrast, Agile practices balance the need for agility and discipline by encouraging cross-functional teams to collaborate on requirements throughout the project lifecycle. The key to Rally's success is how it seamlessly integrates Agile project management with managing changing requirements, so teams can achieve real software success as measured by faster response to their customer's highest-value features.
With regards to Rally's flexible reporting features, the report noted that:
- Rally Enterprise includes comprehensive dashboards that display real-time data. Dashboards in Rally Enterprise can be customized to display data about a specific team member, iteration, or release.
- Rally Enterprise includes a good set of customizable reports regarding the status of requirements in formats tailored to the needs of Agile teams, such as burndown charts.
- Rally Enterprise permits users to create custom reports without requiring any knowledge of programming, database query languages, or database concepts...Custom reports can also be created using the Web services API.
The Forrester Wave: Requirements Management, Q2 2008 evaluated Rally Enterprise 2007.7, released in December 2007. In order to qualify for the report, Rally met stringent requirements including: several key requirements management features built into its application lifecycle management solution, five large installations across five different industry segments and at least three inquiries from Forrester clients within the past 12 months.
