PhysEd @ Rally – Ultimate Football (Take 2)
Our second attempt at playing Ultimate Football solidified the appeal of the game for many of the players. The fluidity of the game makes for a great workout, and it’s different enough from the frisbee variant to be included in the rotation.
Today’s matchup brought to mind a traditional English summer – in that it was an overcast, mosquito-stricken afternoon, though it wasn’t quite cool enough to really qualify. The teams traded points for the first half, with no team really taking a strong lead despite some clever play on both sides that made good use of the ball’s ability to get to receivers a frisbee cannot. In the second half Team 1 changed their strategy and went on a run of 5 unanswered points with some great transitional play, forcing turnovers and quickly capitalizing with long passes to open receivers. That run, and the 14-10 scoreline at the time, prompted an extension of the game to 20 points from the 16 initially thought to be a good target. After the deadline extension, Team 2 had a few good chances to get back in the fight and had some excellent moves that made the most of their more mobile players, but they weren’t enough to reduce the lead.
