A change in location today, switching from the uneven playing surface at Valmont park to the freshly lain artificial pitch at East Boulder Community Park. The field is fantastic and likely to become the permanent home for games. There are markings for many sports, so field setup is no longer needed apart from wheeling a goal around to suit team size on the day. It’s been designed with drainage in mind, it’s flat & level, and doesn’t need watering. All in all, entirely unlike the other field which was a swamp most of the summer and was full of traps for unsuspecting ankles.

To the game.

Things started off fairly fast paced, which was bound to change once people’s lungs and legs remembered we were playing on a full size field. Still, Team 2 managed to score a few goals, through a combination of skillful play, ignorance, and guile. They would have had one more but for the honest play of one centre-forward, calling himself offside after burying the ball into the net. Chapeau, sir.

We broke for water at 4-0. The skunk seemed on, but Team 1 managed to nick a goal quickly after the restart to restore some much needed confidence. Team 1 then had some great attacking play, but they were sorely lacking with their final ball. If points were given for effort and/or hitting the woodwork then Team 1 would have been in the game, however they aren’t so Team 1 lost by a considerable margin. Final score, 7-2.
