Today’s game started off in a flurry of activity, with a few great early chances for the Dark Side giving them an excellent start. The ball hit the woodwork and some of the Light defenders a couple of times before the first goal was scored.

This looks painful!

Random sniper fire shortly after the opening goal resulted in an injury to one of our long-absent competitors, you know him best from this recent bonus post. We hope he’ll be ok soon, and in the meantime enjoy this x-ray from his e-room visit. Yeeeouch! Big thanks go out to my wife Tabitha for abandoning her cheerleading duties to take him to the hospital, and to Todd for rescuing her from Broomfield after she drove the wounded party home.

After shipping The Chauncey off to the emergency room, there was some confusion as teams were restructured to even up the numbers as the Dark Side were then two men down. This had some good comedy moments with passes and throws-in to the opposing team, which made a nice change from the normal turnover mechanism (author’s note: lack of skill).

The attacking force was strong for the dark team, even resulting in this amusing comment from one Light defender, “Let’s try having a midfield out there!” Banter continued with Dark asking Light if they needed some extra players to help even things up when the score was only at 3-0. This sparked some fire in the Lighties, and they pushed hard on a couple of corners, with one player taking a boot to the face while leaning down to head in a corner. No harm done this time, though I was worried for a bit since it had been my boot… Sorry Todd! The goal counted anyway, and Team Lightie was off the mark.

Going in at half time the scores were 3-1.

After checking in with the hospital contingent, play resumed. Dark Side scored another couple to go 5-1 up and “Next Point?!” was called. The teams traded attacks for the surprisingly long remainder of the half, but the Light team were eventually able to scrape a consolation goal back.

Final Score: Dark 5 – Light 2.
