RALLY Addresses Distributed Software Project Management Dilemma With Rally Release 4
New interface and enhanced performance supports incremental adoption and widely distributed teams
BOULDER, Colo., Feb. 1, 2005 - Rally Software Development Corp., a provider of on-demand software development management solutions for Agile teams, today announced the availability of Rally Release 4, the latest version of its on-demand, hosted subscription service for managing the entire Agile software development lifecycle. Keeping true to its mission to "deliver early, deliver often," and based on direct customer feedback, Rally Release 4 features:
- An entirely new user interface that eases incremental and role-based adoption of Rally;
- New import and export features for enhanced interoperability and reporting; and,
- Faster performance that allows Rally to better scale across widely distributed teams that may have low-bandwidth connections.
"Agile practices place a premium on collaboration and communication to reliably deliver software in rapid iterations. This becomes increasingly challenging as teams grow to more than 10 people, or are distributed," said Tim Miller, CEO at Rally. "The beauty of utilizing an on-demand software service for managing and coordinating Agile development is the ability to instantly turn-on distributed project teams in a way that dramatically lowers start-up costs and eliminates implementation risk. Rally Release 4 also gives customers a way to start incrementally, so teams can begin by managing their release plans and schedules, or focus first on project requirements, test cases or defects, depending on their needs."
Since Rally introduced the first on-demand subscription Web service for managing all aspects of Agile software development, a growing number of software-driven organizations have utilized its solution to gain unprecedented project visibility into project features, quality and status, while improving overall team collaboration. Rally's tooling and coaching solutions help in-house, distributed and outsourced development teams more efficiently define, develop and deliver software releases. As a hosted Web application, Rally starts fast and scales easily across all geographies and platforms with no IT burdens.
Central to the new features contained in Rally Release 4 is a re-designed user interface that eases incremental and role-based adoption of the service. Now, teams have the flexibility to start quickly with project planning and scheduling, or focus first on managing requirements, test cases or defects. This "start anywhere" approach allows customers to steadily grow into managing the entire development lifecycle using any of Rally's lightweight workflow capabilities based on their unique requirements.
"Part of our company's strategy for leading our industry is achieving 'product excellence,' and Agile development practices support and accelerate this important initiative," said Herb Morreale, CTO at Gold Systems. "But it runs deeper than that. Agile techniques are enabling us to build a business that can respond faster to new opportunities and customer needs. Rally is facilitating our move to Agile and in a matter of weeks we've transitioned our development processes. We are now completing two-week development iterations."
Additional new features of Rally Release 4 include enhanced system performance designed to improve the responsiveness for world-wide distributed deployments - some with low bandwidth infrastructure - an area of strong business growth for Rally. Rounding out new capabilities are improved export and import capabilities that enable improved interoperability; specifically the ability to export project work products into a CSV format to easily share and exchange data with existing systems and reporting tools.
Pricing and Availability
Rally Release 4 is available now. The company offers a free trial to qualified software organizations. After the trial period, per-user pricing starts at $65-per-month. Rally also offers a 5-user annual subscription package that includes tailored training for $3,500 that is designed to help projects start quickly with Agile and Rally.
