Test and Defect Management Questions
Q. What are Defect Management and Test Management?
Rally's Defect Management comes standard with your Rally subscription and helps you manage defects found during automated testing, manual testing or those reported by stakeholders and customers. Dashboards automatically group test results and defects by requirement to show which issues must be resolved before the release is accepted. You can:
- Link defects to requirement or test cases right from the submit form.
- Schedule and track defects individually and/or in defect suites.
- View which defects are preventing acceptance of key features.
- Receive notifications of status updates and changes.
- Use Web Services to integrate with other systems (including support desks, CRM, Excel, source control and development environments).
Rally's Test Management functionality also is included in your Rally subscription and helps you generate test cases directly from requirements to pull testing forward and ensure traceability. The result is more consistent testing with improved software quality and faster delivery. You can:
- Create tests cases directly from requirements.
- Evolve acceptance tests simultaneously with - or ahead of - the coding efforts.
- View status dashboards that automatically group test results by requirement to assess quality and readiness.
- Provide access to failing tests for improved communication, easier defect re-creation and lower management burdens.
Q: What is Rally Quality Manager?
In addition to the test management capabilities that come standard with your Rally subscription, Rally Quality Manager is available as an upgrade to your subscription. Rally Quality Manager is an
optional subscription module that gives you advanced testing organization tools that allow you to manage your test coverage across concurrent development projects. Development and QA team leaders can surface test results out of their test automation tool silo and into Rally's central development system, making it easier to predict total project completion, balance resources and reinforce Agile testing practices.
- A complete test case repository and test plan view display status across all requirements and projects
- Group regression tests into test folders that display the number of test cases passing and failing
- Setup a waste-free workflow between leading open source and commercial test automation tools such as HP Quality Center and Fit or Fitnesse
Q. Can I add Rally Quality Manager to my subscription at any time?
Yes. Contact your Rally Sales Representative to add this functionality to your subscription. Your new subscription agreement will reflect the incremental price of Rally Quality Manager and will renew on the same date as your original subscription.
Q. How much does it cost to add Rally Quality Manager and Defect Management functionality to my subscription?
Defect and standard test management are included with your Rally Enterprise subscription. The incremental cost to add Rally Quality Manager to your base subscription is $10/user/month.
Q. Can I turn off Rally Quality Manager?

Q. What happens to my Rally Quality Manager data if I chose not to keep this functionality at the time of my subscription renewal?
You will still be able to view your quality and defect-related information in Rally, but it will be available in a read-only format. Prior to turning off Rally Quality Manager functionality, Rally can also provide you with an export of your testing data.
