Rally Release 2007.7 - December, 2007
Rally Release 2007.7 (R2007.7) gives Agile teams greater accessibility and control over requirements, users and supporting tools as their company's use of Rally expands.
Enhancements include support for:
- Filtering on user stories and expanded filter criteria
- Improved release burndown charts
- New notification rules
- Enterprise password administration
- User management in Rally's Web Services API
- The Rally Connector for Eclipse
- The Rally Connector for CruiseControl.NET
What's New in Release 2007.7
Enhanced Filtering
Quickly find the exact requirement with Rally's advanced child filtering capabilities. As your Agile project development becomes more complex and teams multiply, Rally's filters allow team members to identify sub-stories or a 'child' story stored across projects. The ability to filter your search for child stories saves time searching through a large number of user stories.
- Find and view all matching user stories within the context of its parent user story hierarchy to understand its relationship to other user stories
- Zero in on a child story using either the list or tree view
- Specify the exact criteria you need to find your user story
Rally has also made improvements for users who need to filter information on summary pages. The custom view function now supports ANDs and ORs in the filter criteria.
Improved Release Burndown Charts
The improved release burndown chart allows Agile project leaders to better predict when their releases will be ready to deliver with an enhanced format that displays the progress of accepted user stories over the course of a release. Now the release burndown displays the progress of what matters most to stakeholders - the development of new requirements and not just the completion of development tasks. As a result, product owners and project managers can use the burndown to communicate status and set company expectations.
- Quickly assess the high-level health of releases in one view
- Confidently make a decision earlier in the release cycle to reduce commitments or delay the release date
- View all of your projects' release burndown charts on your My Widgets page to find out if all teams are on track
New Notification Rules
Team members can further simplify the notifications and updates they receive from Rally with additional filter options. Receive notification of just those changes that matter to you as your Agile projects and team members grow.
- Add a new rule to only receive notifications if a change was made to a certain project within Rally
- Filter notifications based upon the change author to keep track of changes made by specific users
- Stop receiving notifications on changes that you make yourself
- Limit the number of notifications to only those you care about
Enterprise Password Administration
Rally administrators save effort and get more options in creating and enforcing their Rally login security policies thanks to additional password administration functionality. Rally understands the stringent security policies of today's enterprises as well as the highly-proprietary nature of a company's backlog and release information. Additional security tools give administrators greater ability to standardize their company's security policies across all of their development tools.
Password protection can be customized in the following ways:
- Password Expiration - Set the frequency at which user passwords expire to conform to your company's security policies
- Password Reset - Give end users the ability to reset their passwords in an automated and secure fashion with a new token-based password reset feature
Web Services API Enhancements: Rally User Management
Rally has added a new API call that allows Enterprise customers to leverage the Web Services API to create many Rally users at once. This capability is especially useful for customers who would like to import users from LDAP directories. In addition, administrators now have the capability to add or remove user permissions through the Web Services API.
The Rally Connector for Eclipse
Rally's integration with the Eclipse IDE allows developers and testers to make updates to tasks and defects directly from Eclipse without having to leave their development context. Project managers, team leads or scrum masters do not have to remind team members to update their tasks or defects in Rally in order to get up-to-date visibility into their project's health or risks.
- Make updates to tasks or defects in Eclipse and ensure that your Rally dashboards reflect accurate team progress
- See and share the files in Eclipse that are related to a task or defect within their context
- Create tasks in Eclipse and associate them to a story in Rally without leaving Eclipse or logging into Rally
- Since this connector is built using Mylyn, you can update task and defect status while offline and your updates are updated automatically when you connect to the Internet
Rally/CruiseControl.NET Connector
Agile development teams working with .NET can get a snapshot of their daily development cycle with Rally's connector to CruiseControl.NET. The status of development builds is a key indicator that helps teams improve their product stability and their success with Agile development.
- A clear indication within your Rally project notifies team members quickly if the build is passing or failing
- Clicking on the build status within Rally links to your build system displaying full build results
